We both submitted our designs for the Dolphin Parade and are anxiously waiting to hear back. A celebration for the opening of the new dolphin exhibit at the Georgia Aquarium will feature 5' dolphin fiberglass sculptures painted by artists. We're hoping at least on of our designs will be chosen.

I rendered my design with Prismacolor pencils /i did mine with sharpies.

You'd think by looking at these photos that all they do is laze about, but it's not true. (well it's true for the cats). But not T. In fact one of the reasons I have been so slack about posting these last few weeks is because T has been working on my computer much of the time. She has a freelance job designing CD covers and I have to say I am very impressed with her work. When she's not working at the computer she's working very hard outside doing landscape work with her father or helping my dad out in his yard by cutting the grass, edging, etc. She's a very diligent worker – but she also knows how to relax - and that's a good thing too. right?

I've decided. I'm selling, packing up and taking Taylor with me to travel the world.

I'm sure it didn't take you long to figure this to be a fool joke. But wouldn't that be a dream - an exciting, free-spirited thing to do? But merely a dream for me because I don't have the kind of free-spirit needed for such a drastic step as to sell everything and quit my job, and head off into the great unknown.

I'm reading the book One Year Off about a family that did just that - sold everything, quit the jobs and took 3 kids around the world for one year. I would, however, like to travel to far away places some day. Hopefully some day soon. And with Taylor.

What far away place do you dream of traveling? For me, the dream is a little cottage with the windows open to the fresh air and lavender scented fields, walking the cobble streets to the market in the warm morning sun where Taylor will speak to the locals in French and ask for our coffee au lait and warm pains au chocolat - that's where we'll start anyway. / meet susie... she's a free-spirit... a bike to take me places. i've been wanting one and i think mom was going to put one in my Easter basket. but i found my love here... in athens at my favorite consignment store instead.

We got a little bit of snow last night and however little... it's still pretty. But it's very very cold (for down south). It was 16º this morning and going down to 12 tonight. I know that's no big deal to those that live up north but for here it's pretty unusual. Snow is too, so of course schools were closed and work delayed opening until 11am. yeah! It was nice having a relaxing breakfast of oatmeal and playing outside with Evee. / sad - no snow here. this photo i took of kodi last week reminded me of snow though.

When you're too tired to post and have nothing much to say, a photo of a dog and/or a cat are always a safe bet aren't they? Looks like maybe Evee and Kodi are discussing – in a totally puzzled 'what is up with that' kind of way – just why I didn't come up with something better for this, one-shy-of 300th post – on my birthday of all things! I was just too tired from all the partying? No. I have no excuse.

I do want to take this 299th post to thank all of you who read and follow my/our blog. It means so much to me that you have stayed with us even though many days we stray away from our original intent. T seems too busy most days to send her words and photos but I appreciate, so much, your support and encouragement in your comments and the mere fact that you take time out of your day to visit. Thank YOU!

No not really fierce, but she has been known to be unkind to Evee. 

Both Evee and Kodi love this chair but they would never sleep here together. I wish that they would – wish they would get along. Evee is so sweet and tries to be friends with Kodi but Kodi doesn't know how to behave – she just looks at Evee and then swats her without even being threatened. In fact, just recently Kodi got her right in the eye and made it bleed (it was really bad). I don't think Evee knows what to think about it all. Evee keeps trying to be friends – why is Kodi so mean to me, I was here first?

Not much happened this day but that's ok.
Actually now that I think about it I did get quite a bit accomplished today. This morning I graduated from Boot Camp's 6wk session (I'm signing up for the 6wks summer with T); then I finally planted some plants that I bought a few weeks ago and took a few photos of the ones blooming; then I scrubbed my deck. Don't you hate it when a product claims something that is not true – like "no scrub" deck cleaner, just spray and rinse – HA. I scrubbed and scrubbed and it still wasn't getting clean and then it started to rain. I was kinda of glad for the rain – I was getting tired of scrubbing. So I came inside and took some photos of kodi at the window. I also did some reading at a good photo website I found and signed up for a seminar for T and I to take together. And by tonight I was feeling the need to get something else accomplished so I cleaned out my very messy kitchen junk drawer. I won't show you a photo of that – it would be embarrassing. There's just some things that I have a hard time knowing exactly where to put so they end up in that drawer, but it was getting so full you couldn't find anything if you wanted to. I'm sure some of you have drawers like that too. right?
So I guess the day wasn't a wash after all.
T had her own agenda today, editing photos from a show last night, cleaning her car, and catching up on some tivoed shows, and now is off with friends. I think I'll go read.

Maya over at Springtree Road has a new member of the family - Zasha – she's a russian blue kitty and is so adorable. Maya asked to see our kitty, Kodi. She's a russian blue also. At least that's what they told us at the Humane Society. I beleive she is because of one distinct feature that russian blues have – mauve footpads instead of slate gray. Kodi has mauve. Another thing they say about them is that they don't shed as much as most cats, but that they have shedding seasons. Spring is one of those seasons. I think it's my season for shedding too. Sure seems like I'm losing a lot of hair right now. I don't know, maybe it's age. anyway I guess it's natural. / this is a portion of my last drawing project - transformation - spreading my wings. here i am putting my wings on. i've tested them... they're pretty good. strong. freshman year is drawing to a close and i'd say i've learned a lot.

That quote is great and so true, but this weekend, for me, the issue of focus was less philosophical and more about keeping my attention in one place - focusing on the task at hand - in the present. I keep getting distracted by little things.
I'm working on a painting that I want to submit to Paws for Charity and it's due next weekend, so I really needed to be painting but I got distracted by this, and while posting, of course I got distracted by other peoples blogs. I finally did get around to painting and I'm so close to finishing - all I really lack is getting Evee painted in the background - but instead of focusing on painting Evee, I kept seeing things that I wanted to change about Kodi (by the way the painting is of Kodi sitting on a chair inside and Evee is just outside the window looking in - maybe I'll show it to you when I'm pleased with it). So I focused on Kodi, which in turn may have resulted in overworking her, instead of focusing on Evee. For some reason I hesitate, afraid I'll mess up the entire painting when I paint Evee. But like my mom always told me, "you can't make a mistake in painting, just do it, you can always paint over it if you mess up". I've got to stay focused in order to complete this painting in time.
Another issue of focus for me this weekend was physical - the way my eyes work these days. I have always had good vision - never wore glasses. But as I have aged things are less in focus than they used to be. Tonight in my metalsmithing class I thought I had forgotten my glasses. As I looked at the tiny 2mm bit of solder on my metal I found it difficult, no impossible, to see. I thought I would had to run to CVS to get a pair of glasses in order to do much of anything in class - how sad is that? But luckily I found a pair in my car. This fuzzy vision of old age really bothers me.

One year ago, this week, we brought home a little kitty and named her Kodi (short for Kodachrome). I had wanted to give Taylor a kitten for her 18th birthday before the 3 boys fighting for her attention each gave her one and we ended up with 3 kittens on our doorstep Feb 12th. She had been saying for months that she wanted a solid gray cat just like the one she fell in love with over the summer. But then she found a cute little calico that she just had to have. We drove all the way to Macon to see this kitten. The lady had a lot of kittens but the one Taylor wanted to see was being shown at some show that you had to pay to get in. I didn't want to pay the price for both of us just to see that cat. So we decided we would check back with the owner at a later date. On the way home, just for fun, we stopped at our local Atlanta Humane Society. They only had 3 kittens, but there in the play room was a sweet little gray kitten getting all the attention from a little 4 yr old girl. Taylor was in love but just knew that little girl would talk her mom in to getting the kitten. But she didn't - instead Taylor talked me in to getting it for her. She was a sweet tempered little Russian Blue (it's what the papers said anyway) and I knew we would be taking her home - after all that little kitten made the cutest little baby sound you ever heard, how could I resist?
Kodi was the perfect birthday present for Taylor's 18th but what do I get a 19 year old? I have about a week to decide.

And now Kodi is my company. She is a very talkative, playful, sometimes too frisky, little kitty.
