mysterious / hidden

solo post - L , Nikon

Sunday was a wonderful autumn day –the sun bright and the breeze cool – so I went out, without a plan, looking for something to photograph. I ended up in a very historical city of Roswell and explored the Founders cemetery and then went down to the old mill area and did some hiking. But I was wearing cowboy boots so I couldn't do the hiking I wanted to do – cowboy boots don't give the best traction you know. But I did make it up the steep steps to a trail that overlooked the Vickery Creek and old mill. There were sections in the trail that were scattered with these huge leaves giving the area a eerie sort of feel. I came home and looked at the photos I had captured. None so good, but I kept being drawn to these two and specifically to them together. There seemed to be a tie to them that I just couldn't put my finger on. After doing some research on the area I found that the area where each of these were taken is haunted. At the mills, several recordings have been made of hearing the sound of millworkers moans and of visitors getting the sensation that they are being pushed. At the cemetery, it has been recorded, is home to a more playful apparition: a small girl who sometimes reaches up to hold your hand or scampers behind a tree. I had no knowledge of these things when I photographed on Sunday but now I look at them and they seem mysteriously linked. I don't know what to believe about ghost. I personally have never had any encounters with them, but it apparently makes for an interesting tour of the area. I wonder, have any of you had encounters with ghosts?

How strange. I haven't had any ghost encounters and I'm glad I haven't because I'm a chicken. Sometimes my kids like to watch those ghost hunter shows and they creep me out!

That is a huge leaf! What is it from?

Nope. NO ghosts for me. But, when I was a teenager, I told such a wonderful, spooky ghost story that I flat scared myself to death.

Lovely pictures! I love that part of Roswell too...I'm pretty sure I know exactly where you were.

As to ghosts, I do think I've have visitations in my sleep and at least one very clear nasty scary one in an awake moment.

I wrote about one person in spirit form who came for a visit with a message to share just yesterday in my TMAST story. Some of the story is fiction, but some is very true and I tell you at the end which part is factual.

My father, who died nineteen years ago on November 16, used to show up sometimes too both when I was awake and asleep. When I was awake, I would smell his pipe tobacco.

Once I went to a book reading given by Sylvia Browne she singled me out and said there was a man standing to the left of me and he was clicking something on the front of his teeth....tapping. Well, my dad always had a habit of tapping his pipe stem on the front of his teeth making a clicking noise. And I thought she was making stuff up all those years she was on Montel Williams. :)

Here's the link to some of my ghost stories....

I'm being repetitious but I always gasp at the photos you marry. I do. No exageration. You do something of magic in capturing and then marrying.

Ghosts? I'd like to say I don't believe. I mean, my logical mind does not. But yes, there have been times. When my daughter was young, maybe two, she was busy talking to someone in our laundry area. Always chattering away in this old house we lived in. I asked who she was talking to. She said, "Silly mommy, the woman standing beside you." She finished off her conversation with her. It was an uneasy house. Always a smell of rot about it. Soon after we found our new home, old as well, but as she ran through the rooms and dipped into closets she said, "Mom, we can live here! There aren't any ghosts!"

Who knows...

love the leaf shot. I really like both the shots actually. I have seen the name of this tree but I can't remember...it's kind of sycamore maybe? I'll look - they have them at the botanical gardens

i liked your self-portrait when i saw it on flickr {which i was led to via your s.s. post.}

hmmmm.... let's see. there was a span of time in this house where we are now, that i swore there was a ghost in it. i kept noticing all these things that would be moved or changed -- things that i know i did not do. i would ask b. if he did them. he would say no. so i really began to think there was a ghost messin' with me. i'm sure it was all in my head, but it was kind of funny. not really a creepy experience. more funny than anything. funny either way... whether it was all in my head or not.

and this from a girl who grew up swearing there was no such thing as ghosts.
