a transport of delight

solo post -L, iphone/Nikon

30 minutes later – from high heels and a skirt to flip flops and jeans. After being indoors all day long – not even out for lunch – I couldn't wait to get home and take a walk around the yard and then relax on the deck with my earl grey tea. The drive home was delightful – the windows open, breathing in the sweet scent of honeysuckle and feeling the cool breeze and warm sun on my skin. This week I'm enjoying the slower commute home in traffic. It gives me more time to smell the fragrance of summer. There are certain scents that transport me right back to childhood and I'm enjoying that flight – I think specifically it's the honeysuckle that does it. I remember carefully breaking the end with my finger nails and slowing pulling the end out, gathering that tiny little droplet of sweet nectar on my tongue.
I think tonight T is being transported back to childhood in a different way. She has a friend over and they're watching old Disney movies – Fox & the Hound, Dumbo, Aladdin, Jungle Book, etc. As I sit here typing it gives me pleasure to hear the gentle talk and laughter, even singing (the deep voice of his and higher voice of T – "A whole new world...") in the other room as they watch the movies together. It makes me smile.

your beautiful story reminds me of how we used to pull apart caragana flowers and sip the nectar, wonderful childhood memory that. Sounds like you had a delightful weekend.

these are some of my favorite kind of shots!

i think smell is the most memory-triggering of the senses. i have so many favorite smells. like sawdust, because it reminds me of my carpenter father from the day i was born, until the day he died. it is the best smell in the world to me.

Good god, there is nothing in this post that is not overwhelmingly beautiful. I love that first shot in motion. Lawd, lawd, that is beautiful.

Oh, Leslye, this post makes me smile! Honeysuckle, me and my kids do that, taste the nectar! And the sweet sounds of childhood from the other room, beautiful!

You've captured one of my favorite joys. It is so sweet to listen to my own little one giggling and playing with her friends. Sweet voices from another room.
