adorn / ornament

L - Nikon / T - iphone

I've had this tree topper for many years. It's not your typical angel, but I love her - I see her as a caregiver to nature and animals. Do you put a star or angel on the top of your tree - or something completely unique? / 60 individual petals - 12 flowers - finished ornament (photo put together with picstitch app). the process was therapeutic as a break from studying for finals and i love the results.

garland / lights

Christmas waves a magic wand over this world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful. ~Norman Vincent Peale
i love decorating for the holidays, but decided against bringing my two bucket-loads of christmas cheer back with me after thanksgiving. i'm sort of regretting my scrooge-y decision. i had thought i wouldn't have long enough to enjoy them for all the effort it would take. but now seeing as i will be here til the 23rd because of work i'm sad i don't have them. i did pick up a string of $5 lights at the craft store when i was picking up DIY-christmas gift supplies. i love the way they make my room look and i'm a little bit less humbug now!

scooting / making room

solo post - L, iphone/Nikon

This Thanksgiving has been very relaxing – no stress, no shopping, no worries. And here it is coming to a close. Taylor has to get back to school and my brother has to go back to B'ham. But before he left he took me on a scooter ride. It was a most glorious day and we scooted all around the neighborhoods, the wind in our faces, smelling the autumn leaves and the fires burning. We went into neighborhoods that we don't bother to drive through in our cars. People were out decorating their homes, hanging the wreaths and placing the lights. We saw amazing homes - some so elegantly decorated and others more classic in their approach. Ever since I was a child I loved driving around looking at decorations. One the scooter it was even more fun - so much fun that we lost track of time and ended up being gone for over an hour. It was my first ride, and to my own surprise, I loved it.
As I'm sure is true for many of you, it is tradition for us to get the Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving, and to start making room for Christmas decorations inside and outside the house. The wreaths were hung outside and candles placed in the windows, the nutcrackers come out and the garland is hung on the mantel, childhood Christmas photos are set here and there and a winter wonderland is created with the snowbabies figurines. But something we always pick out together is the tree. And this year T and I did it in record time - I mean literally seconds - the very first tree T pulled out looked about as good as we've ever had so we went with it, not even looking at any others. I was shocked. I can't believe we went with the first one.

popcorn / cranberries

Taylor got home today and I already had plans for us. I guess I should have let her relax a bit. But we're a little behind on the decorating - there are no ornaments on the tree yet and the mantel looked a little lacking. So I thought what a relaxing sort of activity it would be to string some popcorn for the mantel - we added cranberries too. We talked about some Christmases past - some when I was young and some when she was young. She made one string and I made another - it worked out perfectly and it didn't take long either./ the house looked so pretty when i walked in today - it was warm and smelled of pine. haha, i should have known mom would have some decorating for us to do today. it was fun though. it reminded me of photo we took for our card one Christmas when i was young - mom made me a mrs. claus outfit - a little short, red circle skirt and jacket trimmed in fake fur - I wore a santa hat and sat by the tree stringing popcorn. it was the year it actually snowed for Christmas - 2000 - the year my cousins (twins) were born on Christmas Eve.
