hearts / love

solo post - L, Nikon, iphone

A simple dinner alone, eaten at the kitchen counter. That sounds so sad and pitiful but it's OK. She went back to school last night and the house is quite and I am alone once again, but there is a calm and I'm ok - really. We had such a great holiday together and the gifts haven't stopped. I got something in the mail just today - a Christmas gift from Taylor that was late in arriving. And I love it. It's a very cool leather camera strap from an etsy artist. Don't you love it when someone knows just what you'd like?

affirm

solo post - L, Nikon

I poured the water over my tea bag, the tag said, "We are here to love each other, serve each other and uplift each other " and then I picked up that apple. Do you see it there – plain as if it was stenciled on - a heart as uniform and perfect as any I've seen – it said "love". Now if I would just put those words to practice each and every day.

treasure

solo post - L

Two days in a row - signs of happiness - the smiley face staring at me in the morning and now these xx's carved in a tree. I had a thought maybe there was treasure below, after all x marks the spot right? But I have a feeling they were put there by two people who adored - treasured - each other. Maybe even professing their love for each other at the very moment of engraving - it's a sweet thought anyway.
The shot seemed appropriate for Happy Love Thursday. Hope everyone finds a bit of love and happiness in their day today.

silver lining / velvet red

L - Nikon D60 / T- phone pic

I finished another project in metalsmithing and I'm pretty pleased with it. This ring came together without a lot of problems, however, not without some problems. Soldering is very tricky and there are many steps, so when I finally got it right I was very happy. It's hard to tell from this angle but the inside is a tiny concave silver dome soldered to a bigger convex copper dome - – creating an open heart. Those pieces were soldered to a flat silver disk and that is soldered to the ring band. I hammered the copper dome to give it texture in comparison to the smooth silver inside. For me there's a lot of symbolism in this design. This is a ring of optimism. / i wouldn't say this came together exactly as i had envisioned it, but it was received well in class and that always helps. the red velvet caused me some problems... coming apart at the seams. at that point i had a broken heart but i mended it. i know i could make a better one now. that's the way it happens isn't it? - we learn by our mistakes.

outdoors in / indoors out

The other day when I was working on a set of "love" notecards for the I.C.E. show I was using these tiny little redbud leaves. They were laying there on my desk and I knew then that it would be my "Love Thursday" photo. The redbud tree has always been one of my favorites. To me it is simple and graceful. It's delicate purple clusters signal that winter is coming to a close. In addition to the bloom, I love the rich black color of the bark and the zig zag shape of the limbs and of course, the lovely heart shaped leaf.
/ Because Taylor is still out of commission with her posts, I pulled from something she took at this same time last November (i've done this before in a pinch). There's a story about this shoot, and I had it posted, but I took it off because it's not what this blog is about. Hopefully she will get back in the swing of sending photos for this blog of ours. Until then...
