budding / blossoming

solo post - L, Nikon (this year / last year)

It was damp and cool out yesterday when I got home but I was thankful for the extra daylight I could enjoy. I was anxious to see how the red bud trees where coming along so I went outside with my camera and my dog to take photos of "spring" for the lens.us.together group post. The red bud blossoms are one of my favorite first signs of spring. What I found was tiny little buds forming but not yet blossoming. I was thinking they were further along this time last year so I went inside to compare. I opened up iphoto, went to March 25, 2009 and got my answer. Yep - the tree was blossoming last year on March 25th. Does the spring growth seem a little behind in your next of the woods?

No! We're ahead of the game. Usually people are still ice fishing now and we've not a flake of snow. Haven't for a very long time. IT's strange, but I invite it, as long as we get the rain to compensate.

I miss rosebud blossoms. Too far north here but I remember the first time I saw them. They seemed such an indulgence of nature. Gorgeous.

We are behind here in the Northeast, too. I checked photos from last year of my hyacinths and they were up more at this time last year than they are now. Spring must be telling us to be patient. It's not easy!

I'm down the road from ELK, and we are behinder, I think. We've just entered our 2nd week of our annual Azalea Trail & I haven't seen an azalea yet. No wisteria, no dogwoods, tulip trees done, pear trees okay, but very, very behind. However, I have a friend with a place in the country, 20 miles away, and all is blooming at once on his place.

Redbuds are everywhere, though, in full tilt blossom mode. Go figure.
