patience / focus

L - Nikon 200mm / T - Nikon film camera

There's been a lot of rain here – a lot – but if you're patient the rain lets up and you can walk outside. Yesterday I spent some time in Chattanooga and enjoyed the art galleries during the rain and a walk along the river when the rain let up. I didn't take many photos but my patience paid off and I was able to get this shot after waiting for it to stay still long enough for me to find it through my lens and focus. (and btw, I even got a bird on a wire shot like I've always wanted.) / this is a little bit of how i'm feeling right now- i don't know where to look - where to focus. it's weird how you associate your first year of college as finding yourself and figuring out who you are. but i'm still in that stage of self-consciousness. i feel like this photo is very representative of change and alteration to oneself and one's views on things. this way and that way - there are so many things to focus on here it's hard to choose just one. there are so many things going on all at once it's hard to move through and calmly complete them without losing your head.

That waiting bird on a wire that you didn't show/that waiting to know what to do. Life is so much like that always, always a flight about to happen, always a moment or two to stay still, to get things in focus. Once again, I am amazed at how well your images and words work together. Love it!

This is so lovely for a lot of reasons. First, I love the pair of photos. They are both wonderful. Then as I read the post, I thought how they represent these two women, mother and daughter, at very different stages of life. The mother is serene like the butterfly. Able to stop and take in the little things of life. And the daughter at that time of life where so much is offered to her...she is literally spinning her head. She is like the caterpillar...waiting to spread her wings.

learning to focus is my middle name...well, not really, but it should be....oh how I try !

I just remind people that maybe it's us...the ones who don't or can't focus who actually see more than the rest of us....

Hold still. Focus. If that butterfly can, you can.

But then you don't want to be too still. Find that balance.

I love how you two post together. Even when you are both at completely different ends of the spectrum in terms of what you are experiencing, they work so beautifully together. You compliment each other.

Taylor's image is a perfect metaphor for my own life right now. I'm moving so quickly that I'd swear I could see my own backside as I come around and catch myself up again.

The photos on the left are taken by me, Leslye, the mother. The photos on the right are taken by my daughter, Taylor – unless otherwise noted. Comments are always welcome. thanks
