neat / organized

post - L / photos - T

T designed this computer desk and my dad made it for her. He built it according to her specifications and then she sanded, painted it white, stained and varnished the top the color of her floors and added the little glass pulls. Doesn't it look nice and neat? It will be something she can use for years to come. Just as my mom used this drawing table that my dad built for her when they were first married. She used it many years as an illustrator for the Baptist Sunday School Board, and later as a painter. I used it in my paint studio when I went off to college and now T has it to use. When something is made well, and and taken care of, it can last a lifetime and more. Maybe T's children will one day use this desk that she and her Opa built.
These are the markers here... those were mine back when I did markers comps - you know before computers. I was shocked that they still worked - they have to be at least 15 - 20 yrs old.
I thought it was kinda funny... I took these supplies to T last weekend when we met half way for lunch and before I even got home she had sent this photo of it all set up - the colors in perfect order. I know she couldn't stand it until they were in the proper order - she's kinda OCD like that ; ). It brought back memories to see this all set up in working order - the t-square and triangles, ellipses and french curves, and all the colors of the rainbow. Now let's see the work, T.

again, you make me smile so. i love the white and the wood, the new and old, the sense of work and family, and the passing down of rainbows from mother to daughter.

Your family is very talented! I think that is so special to have the drawing table that your dad built, and now that T has the desk that she designed and he built!

Handmade with love and passed down. Love that concept. My husband has built my art desk and also our bed frame. What a great idea to pass it on . . . what a lucky girl.

ps. I love things in order. that is how I like to start my projects. Of course it doesn't stay that way long!

that drawing table looks just like the one i had for a while--a vintage drafting table with so much character like that. my dad lent it to me for a while when i lived on my own and when i was first married. but then when we moved, i gave it back. now that he is gone, i would love to have it again. when i had it, all my art supplies sat on it and all of the watercolor paintings that i was in the middle of working on covered the table top. i would so love to have it again.

love the two photos. the old with the new.

So the talent runs deep. Beautiful work space and what a great memory to have built it with her grandfather. The white surface goes so nicely with the Mac too!

i used to use markers like this at my work as well. it makes me yearn to buy a set just to see them in my art art where i can smile at them each day.

i just checked out both your etsy shops and marked a few favorites. you both do wonderful work!!

You know, the cost of those amazing markers now seems more reasonable to me. Still working 15 years later? You can't beat that.

And, of course, you can put no price on treasures like those desks.
