1000 feet / 1000 steps

solo post - L, Canon / Nikon

Do you remember in 1970 tightrope walker, Karl Wallenda, walking across the 1000 ft deep Tallulah Gorge performing two headstands in midair as he crossed? This is where I went on Saturday. Why we chose one of the hottest days of the year to make this hike I'm not quite sure. Going down the 345 steps to the suspension (swinging) bridge wasn't so bad. From here I could see the raging Hurricane Falls - a fall that has a 96 ft drop. But we wanted to get a closer view so we descended another 200 odd steps to the floor of the gorge only to find that we needed a permit to cross the river and continue downstream to the Bridal Veil Falls where you can slide down rocks into pools of water. Jumping from rock to rock to cross the river looked inviting and fun but I wasn't sure I wanted to pay a steep fine for breaking the rules. Still is was a beautiful site. After some picture taking and video footage we climbed back up – made it thanks to the cooling rain and many breathers along the way. BTW, my legs are pretty sore today. What sort of activity filled your weekend?

little deer / dear one

L - post / T - photos

I've been holding on to this image for bench monday. So since T is away without internet for a day or two I decided to post her photos myself. I love so many of the photos posted to the flickr group but I always forget about taking my own. I think there's something so mysterious about just seeing the a portion of someone. These little legs, a peek of an eye... These are part of the series of photos T took of my little niece. I did some processing to the one on the chair – gave it a softening effect that is rather fitting I think and posted it to the Bench Monday group. I love the coloring in this series - monotone with a pop of green.

my daughter

Sorry I've gotten a little off track with this blog. But I couldn't help this comparison thing again.
Today Taylor and I had so much fun shopping together. Her favorite store is Urban Outfitters and she was so happy to be in a retail store again - all she's been in for the last 2 months are fancy boutiques or thrift stores. After shopping, we had a nice lunch and then went down to the river to do a little photoshoot in the manner of UO catalog. I didn't do a very good job, however I did get a few nice photos to keep. When we got home I was in the laundry room and noticed my favorite of all time photos of Taylor as a child (just 4yrs old) sitting there on the shelf. She was such a little tomboy back then and loved our frequent walks at the river where she would get muddy like little children do playing at the waters edge. That photo was so similar to one I took of her today I just couldn't help the side by side comparison. No longer the tomboy, today she was worried about the beggar lice that attached to her tights.
Hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend.
