I hope you all had a beautiful Easter Sunday. I was happy to have Taylor home for the weekend and to spend time with my brother and my parents as well. The weekend couldn't not have been more relaxing and enjoyable. This Easter Sunday was one of the prettiest I can remember so we spent most of the day outside -just sitting and talking, laughing and playing with the dogs. No Easter egg hunts but I did fix a basket with a few goodies for Taylor. I don't think one is ever too old for such things do you?

it's just around the corner - really

solo post - L, nikon (March 3, 2009 and March 18, 2009)

I started out tonight with two photos - one on top of a budding tree and one on the bottom of the same tree with snow covering those buds just 2 weeks later. They were photos from one year ago - the first one this same date, February 19 last year , and the snow one 2 weeks later on March 3. That seemed sort of discouraging. So I changed my mind about that approach. I kept looking just a few weeks later to see what I could find and found a different set of photos to use. I found this to be true: just two weeks after the snow photos there were photos on March 18th of Taylor at school having a picnic on green, green grass in a sleeveless dress! and there were photos of daffodils at the market and forsythia in full bloom and redbud trees bursting with purple. So when the temperatures reach 63º Sunday I should try not to get over anxious for spring - packing away the winters clothes, and not get discouraged when the temps dip once more into the 20s, but I should know that in about a month, in all probability, spring will be here in full color. That pop of red that the cardinal brings against the gray background of winter will be replaced with pops of yellows and purples against bright greens of spring and I will be able to shed the sweaters and feel the sun on my bare skin soon enough. Spring really is just around the corner.

patience / hoping

This little bird (and more over here), sitting in her nest, beak opened in song, makes me happy just to look at her. I keep feeling like spring is just around the corner. Patience. /dorm life is great and everything - i love living in really close proximity to my good friends - but having a house would be fantastic! i have an opportunity to look at a house with three of my close girl friends and i am beyond excited - our own furnishings, our own rooms, our own bathrooms! we might even get a front porch. we'll see how it goes, wish us luck [:

In Atlanta we have barely reached freezing temperatures and the plants are in a state of confusion. I know it's not spring just yet but I saw a forsythia in bloom yesterday. I thought of all of you who are under more snow than I could possibly imagine and I know the below freezing temps are getting you down. It seems many of you are longing for warmer weather, a beach vacation, for the snow to melt and for the budding plants to peek their way through the soil and soon please. So I thought of you when I bought this tiny little daffodil. I know it would have been prettier photographed in the sunlight hours but alas it was dark when I brought it home from Trader Joes tonight and I couldn't wait to share a tiny bit of spring sunshine with you.

a vision of hope. / when facebook statuses are inundated with political agendas and opinions, you know something has to be a big deal. i have known that the election was going to be very prominent this year, but living in a college town has taken it to an all new level. students have been campaigning ever since i've been here and it has recently gotten very intense! people have been driving around all day asking if people need rides to the polls, election stickers are on every bus stop and lamp post, and of course, it's all people are talking about. i'm glad america's youth is so passionate and involved and realizes the importance of what this election will bring.

I'm re-reading her book, 'Prodigal Summer'. It's a beautifully written book full of insight and information about the wonders of nature, mixed with some interesting human nature as well.
I like this quote by the author. It's something I've been thinking about lately - time I go after those dreams of mine. / working with color today - oil pastels. it's not my favorite - it's messy - i don't feel like i'm good at it. looking forward to the weekend - i have my first athens band to photograph tomorrow.
