When I bought this car 13 years ago I immediately fell in love with the color. Many people think it's an awlful color but to me it is the color a Japanese maple leaf in spring time. That's how I describe it anyway - Jeep calls it Citron Green. Taylor drives it now and she loves it too. It's almost a one-of-a-kind. As long as we've had it we could count on one hand the amount of times we've seen another one just like it - anywhere. Taylor wants to drive her Kirby forever. She says it just fits who she is. And I'd say it does - unique.
I feel so lucky - she has been home two weekends in a row. I bought her tickets to see Spoon at the Tabernacle, but she also wanted to shoot some more film for her assignment. It's a project on color so first we drove down to Cabbage Town where the homes are bright and crazy colors, and to Little Five Points were the graffiti walls add color to otherwise rundown buildings. It was a gorgeous sunny 75 and we enjoyed being outside together. We ate at Flip (a unique burger joint) to end the day before she headed to the concert.
Since we were together we decided to look at our photos of the day and pick two to post, together. I chose the Jeep because I had planned to use it on a post at Lensustogether and when we saw the one she took of the tree and the green wall in Cabbage Town they seem meant for each other. When she first saw that wall she said, "hey look they're painting it Kirby green" and took a photo - not knowing that I had shot the photo of her car behind our maple tree earlier in the day.

Her room awaits her. Taylor will be home this weekend for spring break. I wonder what wonderful things we'll do? One thing on the list: Alice In Wonderland in 3D./ delaying my project seems to have worked out in my favor as athens received one (probably final) bout of snow for the winter. i'm very happy with the outcome of my project as a whole and will be presenting it to my class tomorrow morning, bright and early. i love how the colors in this photo all seem to go together- the pinks and teals. my teacher wants me to venture outside my realm of what seems to be fantasy, but i i love creating other-worldly scenarios. we'll see how she likes this project!

busy / busy

I took an extra 2 days off from work for Thanksgiving and I have really taken advantage of it. I worked non-stop, almost, on new Christmas card designs for my etsy site, filled some etsy orders, and I'm making ornaments to list on there as well (check back later). Plus I got the lights on the tree, the wreaths on the windows, lights on the bushes, candles in the windows and have gradually started decorating inside. This 1st day of December actually felt like December. The temperatures were low and I enjoyed a fire in the fireplace all day long. I think kitty has enjoyed me being home - she's sleeping right here looking so cozy. It's too bad we can't have 3 day work weeks all through December isn't it. Imagine all we could accomplish in preparation for the holidays. It sure will be hard to go back to work tomorrow.
one of my final projects for photography is to create a zine. it's titled "a portrait of an abandoned abode" and i used film images of photos i took at the abandoned house. i worked on the layout when i was home and mom gave me some suggestions on how to put it together but of course i modified it to fit my needs. for instance instead of stitching it together i used black hair bands and i actually like the way it looks. i have to hand out 1o of my zines in downtown athens. should be interesting.

patience / focus

There's been a lot of rain here – a lot – but if you're patient the rain lets up and you can walk outside. Yesterday I spent some time in Chattanooga and enjoyed the art galleries during the rain and a walk along the river when the rain let up. I didn't take many photos but my patience paid off and I was able to get this shot after waiting for it to stay still long enough for me to find it through my lens and focus. (and btw, I even got a bird on a wire shot like I've always wanted.) / this is a little bit of how i'm feeling right now- i don't know where to look - where to focus. it's weird how you associate your first year of college as finding yourself and figuring out who you are. but i'm still in that stage of self-consciousness. i feel like this photo is very representative of change and alteration to oneself and one's views on things. this way and that way - there are so many things to focus on here it's hard to choose just one. there are so many things going on all at once it's hard to move through and calmly complete them without losing your head.

I had one rainy day photo, four photos sent from T, plus this quote. I chose this photo of hers - they all seem to go together to me. In my head it sort of all goes in different directions but makes sense. I imagine your thoughts about it are probably more concise than I can write it, so I'll leave it be. / photo assignment 2 - light as the subject. i knew just the place i wanted to go for this assignments. the other day i drove past an abandoned service station and i was struck by how the light was hitting it mid afternoon, so i took my friend there. i'm happy with the images i got. luckily the sun was shining that day, unlike it has been for the past few days now.

The other day I drove to Watkinsville to go to a huge pottery sale and after I drooled over the beautiful pottery that I couldn't afford to splurge on I drove around town. It's really a beautiful town and there were a lot of interesting places to explore and take photos of, but I was wishing T was with me. She much bolder than I about getting the shot she really wants. One place I have been wanting to visit is the Main Street Yarns and Fibers that I learned about through Maya at Springtree Road, but because of the holiday weekend it was closed. I should have felt completely comfortable exploring and having the place (outside) all to myself to photograph whatever I wanted to of this charming little shop, but all I got was a few photos of these old blue chairs. I should definitely go back with T - it's so close by. / just another shot from my morning class visit to downtown athens. i think my uncle will like this one.

Even though this weekend was not the holiday weekend I had planned, I guess it turned out OK. The thing I was most excited about was meeting a blogger friend in Birmingham for the first time and going on a photo adventure together - that failed and sort of threw my whole weekend off-kilter. I guess I shouldn't put so much weight on any one thing to make a weekend. It's not that it was all bad - it wasn't really. I had a nice visit with a favorite cousin and talked about painting; I enjoyed time reading a new book in my hammock; I did some needed cleaning and felt good about that; I drove to Watkinsville to a pottery show and then got an ice cream cone and explore the little town by myself; I went on a pleasant walk with Evee and watched her splash in the creek; I went out to eat with a friend at a quaint little cafe and enjoyed the night air; and most importantly I started a new painting. It's just that I was out of sorts off and on all weekend. Discontented for a number of reasons really... and I don't like that feeling. / we're starting film now. we all went downtown as a class and shot... which was alright i guess. there just wasn't much out to take pictures of since it was 8am. i passed a cool abandoned place when i was coming back from jefferson the other day. i want to shoot there for the first requirement in our next set of assignments. i'll share more later.

Kodi / a dog

Kodi is Taylor's Russian Blue that we adopted for her 18th birthday. I know Taylor misses her greatly, so I wanted to post a photo of what Kodi's been up to -playful as usual. / Since Taylor was too busy today to send a photo I pulled something from her photos from 1 year ago exactly. She was on a photo adventure with her senior photography class - they explored Cabbage Town and took a lot of great photos. I picked this funny one of a dog - he looks like he wants to chases after Kodi. I'm thinking that Taylor is missing photography classes.
