thrill / chill

L - iphone / T - phone

There is no way the summer is almost over, right? Wrong. I can’t believe it’s flown by so quickly.. Our last post on June 30th seems so long ago! But we have been very busy little bees all summer, whether we were taking short weekend trips (a relaxing getaway to Savannah at the onset of the break) or weeklong trips to the big city (one of our more recent travels to Chicago, a first time for both of us). In between, I’ve gotten to spend a lot of time with my families on both sides. I was able to go see my cousin graduate from high school in California and spend some quality time with my grandma, which I don't get very often and really enjoyed. We also spent just last weekend in Kentucky with my mom’s side of the family (and we had a record number of attendees, I might add!). Each vacation was very different- some action packed and others with more down time than anything else, but each one has been such a blessing in its own way and I have loved every second of all of them.
After all, It’s not always about the activities you do or how quickly you do them, it’s all about who you spend your time with and allowing yourself to enjoy the down time that you may not normally have.

I hope you are all having an exciting summer or at least a refreshing one.

running / soaring

"Keep the child in you alive. " - 54 precious keys to happiness

(sorry for the repeat of the last one - it just seemed appropriate for these photos. After all, it is an important one and worth hearing again, right?)

Evee just turned 12 on April 6th. Pretty old for a dog but you'd never know it in the way she behaves. She still has puppy energy. I love to see her running like the wind, ears flapping, loving the warm sun and cool breezes of springtime. / with two weeks left of school and breezy weather, we decided it was a great day to fly a kite. unfortunately the dollar store two for one kites weren't all that reliable, but my friend has some sort of kite whispering abilities that made hers soar. i gave up and decided that all i could do was document, but i vow to get better soon, in the sun and freedom of summer.

simple / pleasure

T- Nikon / L - Nikon

...
Lips are pursed,
A gentle breath
Gives birth
To another
Gem of wonder -

A Bubble,
A Child’s rainbow globe;
Tenuous, momentary,
But a dream
Of beautiful fragility
That captivates
A sense of wonder.

-Paul Holmes

I switched the order of our photos today because it's the way it occurred.
I came home yesterday and it looked like a child had been at my house. Taylor and her friend apparently had some childhood fun blowing bubbles. / I couldn't help picking up that little yellow pipe myself and blowing some. We're never really too old to enjoy this simple pleasure are we? I hope you let the child in you come out to play this holiday weekend. Happy 4th to all.

looking up / lifted up

L - Nikon / T - Nikon (taken by friend)

Hope you had a most wonderful Saturday - delightful in every way.

Today I did some work in the yard. I pruned my roses way back- long past due, and planted some bushes - another job past due. It was the first pretty day that I've had the opportunity to work in the yard. I sure was nice to be outdoors most of the day. I'd say spring is here and it's definitely time to set up the hammock. There's not much that I love more than a warm spring day in the hammock with a good book and a soft breeze across my face. I missed my chance today - tomorrow it's supposed to rain - but there will be plenty more opportunities and I look forward to those days. / I hope Taylor explains this photo. All I know is that it was part of recording a scavenger hunt in Athens today. From seeing the other photos she sent I'd say she had a fun day. This one was titled parachuting with an umbrella mary poppins style

tiny green

L - Canon / T - Nikon

As you may know I am playing along with the flickr group sixty-four colors. I asked Taylor to play along too. When I told her the color of the week was asparagus green she asked if it was "new" asparagus or "old". I told her the rgb color coordinate looked more like "canned" asparagus to me. Pretty funny. I took a photo of this little tiny sea urhcin that I have at work for my crayola color match and she sent me her photo today - a tiny little match box car. cute.
Have you decided to play along with this weekly challenge? There are so many fun flickr groups it's hard to resist wanting to be a part of them all but it's also hard to keep up with them. I'm wondering... Which group do you enjoy being a part of? How many of the weekly photo challenges do you participate in and do you post to them each week?

blue / yellow

L - Nikon / T - Nikon

After we saw these two shots from yesterday, how could we not pair them together. Not deliberately shot together but deliberately placed together tonight.
Two different houses, on different streets, but I think one was inspired by the blue house with yellow forsythia in the side yard and borrowed their blue paint? There were houses of many colors - lime green, plum purple, canary yellow, olive green, slate blue, even bright pink. It makes for a very colorful neighborhood. There is always something new and interesting to see we you visit.
the last time i went to cabbagetown was on a class field trip with my high school photography class. since then, it's had a rough time and 2 years ago was devastated by a tornado. i'm so happy to see people rebuilding - that it still seems to be thriving. unfortunately we were pressed for time so we didn't get time to grab a bite in the cute local restaurant or explore the streets, but i did make some cat friends along the way and successfully snapped some shots for my next photography project!

I didn't see the outdoor dining set that Taylor saw before.

Happy weekend

solo post - L, Nikon

What will you be doing this Halloween weekend? No more costumes for me to make here, no trick-or-treaters at my door to treat. I'll just be at home tomorrow night enjoying a traditional bowl of chili and watching a movie by the fire. Growing up my dad always made the first pot of chili of the season on Halloween night (usually cooked it over the fire) - a good hot bowl to feed us before we went out trick-or-treating into the night. Halloween was a good time back in those days. Whatever your weekend holds I hope it's fun, be safe and don't forget to set your clocks back. yeah for the extra hour of sleep.

The crow above was part of an installation for the Harvest Celebration at Aldridge Botanical Gardens. The tree was covered in crows that children had decorated in festive attire.

circle of delights / circle of lights

All these little things delight me - the tiny little acorns with their cute little hats, the subtle color changes in a leaf, the intricate formation in a flower... But what started out as a fun project is slowing causing me to become discouraged. I am so frustrated because I can't find the clear, bright, colorful leaves here (the leaves just have not turned yet), and we have no flowers blooming either - I'm struggling to find the nature that I want for my scannography project and I'm afraid that I won't have the time to get things ready for the ICE festival in just a few weeks. / this week i found out that homecoming in college is not as big of a deal as it is in high school. but my school put on a bunch of free events for students that i finally realized have the potential to be fun. a carnival went up before our eyes on friday afternoon despite the terrible weather and cold and we decided to brave the elements and give it a try later that night. the lights of the rides looked beautiful in the foggy air (wish i'd had my good camera with me - this is a phone pic)) and we rode everything at least once. it was my roommates first time on a ferris wheel and i was happy to share that moment with her.
