open wide / watchful eye

This is the second family of bluebirds to build in this house. Today the mother and daddy were very busy feeding the little babies. I watched as the mother came to feed the babies, their mouths opened wide and eager. As soon as she left, the daddy, watching and waiting on a branch nearby, would fly in to feed them more. Isn't it touching how the male and female bluebirds take such an active role in the care of their young?

    how sweet. i did not know that about bluebirds. i wonder how many other kinds of birds have this kind of activity from the father for the young. that is so precious.

    i wonder, too if bluebirds are a kind of bird where the mothers and father remain monogomous. i've heard that about some bird species, but not sure about the bluebirds. anyway, this is so sweet.

    That is so touching. I am amazed when I see birds taking care of their young like that, sharing the job. Your photos are wonderful!

    I see this and it makes me feel desperate to go and get a birdhouse for my backyard. How wonderful to see our fine feathered friends up close and personal.

    wonderful photos and even more wonderful words.

    when i was little and used to be annoyed by my mom nagging me, she would tell me 'i am not a turtle mother! i don't just have my babies on a beach and abandon them!'
